Sunday Run Clubs in Mumbai: Routes, Timings & How to Join One This Week

Mumbai has weekday run clubs, but Sunday is the main event: traffic is light, the seafronts are open, and the crews that meet at 5:30 or 6 a.m. are the ones that turn into friendships. This is a route-by-route guide to Sunday running in the city, written for people who want to join a group, not train for a marathon.

Why Sunday, and why 6 a.m.

Two reasons. First, heat: by 8 a.m. for most of the year Mumbai is already above 28°C with heavy humidity, so every serious group starts between 5:30 and 6:30 and is done by 7:30. Second, space: Marine Drive, Carter Road and Worli Sea Face are pedestrian-friendly only when the city is asleep. Sunday morning is the one window where both hold.

Most clubs run a 5K and a longer option (8–10K) from the same start point, then regroup for breakfast. Pace groups are normal; nobody is left behind on a social run.

The Sunday routes

Marine Drive (South Mumbai)

The classic. Flat, 3.5 km of promenade from NCPA to Chowpatty — out and back makes a natural 7K, or loop to Nariman Point for a 5K. Start times cluster around 6 a.m.; expect multiple groups on the same stretch, which makes it the easiest place to find one if you’ve shown up without a plan. Sunrise over the bay is the reward.

Carter Road & Bandstand (Bandra)

Bandra’s two promenades connect via a short road section for a 5–6K loop. The densest concentration of social run clubs in the city, and the strongest post-run café scene. If your priority is meeting people, start here.

Worli Sea Face

Wide, flat, and quieter than Bandra. Popular with tempo groups and anyone running 10K+. Good option if you want a faster crew or live in Lower Parel / Prabhadevi.

Powai lake loop

The suburban alternative: the lake perimeter plus Hiranandani’s internal roads give a gently rolling 5–8K. Strong tech-worker contingent; clubs here often double as networking.

Juhu beach

Sand running — slower and harder on the calves, but the most scenic and the flattest. Low tide matters; clubs here shift start times with the tide table.

Aarey Colony & Sanjay Gandhi National Park

For trail and hill work. Aarey’s forest roads and SGNP’s entry stretch (before the park gates open for vehicles) are the city’s only real elevation. Smaller, more experienced groups; go with a club rather than alone.

What to expect at your first Sunday run

  • Registration. Most clubs now ask you to RSVP, partly to cap numbers and partly so someone knows who’s on the route. On Event Flo that RSVP is tied to a government ID-verified profile — the organiser sees a real person, not a handle.

  • Pace honesty. Say your 5K time (or "I walk-run") when asked. Groups split by pace and you’ll enjoy it more in the right one.

  • Cost. Overwhelmingly free. A few charge ₹100–200 for breakfast or a timed event; that goes to the organiser directly, not through a platform.

  • Kit. Road shoes, a bottle, and something to carry your phone. Mumbai humidity means you’ll want water on anything over 5K.

  • After. Breakfast is part of the format. The run is 45 minutes; the table is an hour. That’s where the club actually happens.

Women-friendly and women-only runs

Several Mumbai crews run women-only or women-led Sundays, typically on the Bandra and Marine Drive routes where there is foot traffic and lighting even at 5:45. Look for "women-friendly" or "women-only" in the listing, and prefer clubs where the organiser approves the list — it’s the difference between a group and a crowd. The verified-RSVP model is what lets organisers run these at all; our piece on how verified RSVPs cut run-club no-shows goes deeper.

How to find a Sunday run this week

  1. Open run clubs in Mumbai on Event Flo — it lists upcoming group runs by date with route, pace and start point.

  2. Check this weekend’s Mumbai events for runs listed under fitness or wellness that aren’t branded as a "club".

  3. RSVP to one, then turn up 10 minutes early. First-timers who arrive at start time usually miss the warm-up and the introductions.

  4. If no club runs your neighbourhood, start one — how to start a run club in India covers the first eight weeks, and listing is free.

Run, then stay

Sunday running is the lowest-stakes social format Mumbai has: no dress code, no entry fee, done by 8 a.m. It pairs well with the rest of the weekend — our guide to things to do in Mumbai this weekend builds Friday and Saturday around it.
